NETsolutions Asia releases the next generation Time and Billing system for Law and Accounting firms based in Hong Kong and around the Asian region. TaBS has been designed with Web 2.0 technology and can be hosted on-site or as an appliance and hosted off-site in a data centre. The modules available with TaBS includes Time Keeping, Office and Out of Pocket Expense Tracking (Disbursements), Matter / Job Management, Billing, Receipts, Client and Contact Management, Notes and Memos, Documents, Case and Trust Account Management. In addition TaBS supports multi-currency and can support all Asian languages including Chinese, Korean and Japanese.

The Billing module supports client centric billing, anticipation and cross department billing. As many professional firms consist of more than one legal entity, cross company billing is supported with the automated generation of all appropriate postings for the general ledger of each entity. A key feature of TaBS is the ability to deliver real time reports to partners and fee earners via the TaBS Dashboard. From here a fee earner or timekeeper can track their to-do-items, news items via the built-in blog and data analysis such as the aging of WIP and debtors as well as key staff KPI productivity reports.

Data analysis available on screen and in printable reports will differentiate TaBS in the market. Risk management is supported by providing the facility to perform conflict of interest searches, view on-screen the total exposure to a group or related client matters, percentage of WIP and receivables per partner. This is great news and opens up lots of opportunities.  The SfA product is the only solution that integrates Asterisk directly with Skype with no external gateway hardware.  This is not a “proxy” solution and the call quality will be superior to anything else on the market.

Some of the features that are supported in this release are:

• Make Skype-to-Skype calls.
• Receive calls with online numbers (SkypeIn).
• Make and receive multiple concurrent Skype calls from the same Skype account.
• DTMF support for incoming and outgoing calls.
• Read Skype profile fields from incoming calls.
• Set and retrieve online status.
• Set privacy settings.
• Simultaneous access from both Asterisk and the Skype desktop client.
• Trunk calls between Asterisk servers over Skype.
• Support for G.711 and G.729 (included) codecs.

Last week we changed from our old analog lines to a new E1 connection provided by CAT. We now have 30 new channels, and we decided to stick with only 30 numbers instead of the 100 normally provided with an E1 connection. This gave us savings of Baht 4,500 a month.

To go with the new numbers we are using a new Switchvox VoIP PABX and this gives us a lot of functionality as regards our telephone connections. We have an automated attendant for out of hours as well as Interactive Voice Response menus for certain incoming line combinations. We use Direct Inwards Systems Access so we can get a dial tone from outside the office, thus enabling us to make international calls though the office system, and to zealously guard our mobile phone numbers from those we don’t wish to let them know!

We are taking advantage of TOT NETcall for a lot of our local calls and have reduced our outgoing local charges from around 9.5k a month to about 1.5k, so all in all, worthwhile.
