da-header-bg

Version 8.0 is the most powerful, and ground breaking release of Desktop Authority yet. While we’ve been talking about 8.0 for a long time, I’d like to review some of the big new features:

Computer based Management – Inventory and manage computers that don’t have logged in users, install software for all users and patch computers overnight

Server Management – Now collect hardware and software inventory from servers, change their registry, install software, launch applications and patch servers

Wake On LAN – Wake computers after hours to patch and update them. Bypass all of the router problems that plague traditional Wake On LAN solutions

Scheduled Elements – Need to do something every Tuesday at 4:45 pm? Need to have all of your standard maintenance tasks run on the same schedule? You can do that with scheduled computer?based management elements.

User Notifications – You can warn your users before taking action, give them the option to defer it, control reboots and more, all with customized notification text

New Remote Support Console – Now you can use the web based console from Remote Support Center to manage the ExpertAssist remote management clients included with DA 8.0

Improved Anti Spyware Engine – The SDR option now offers a much faster anti malware engine with smaller definition files for quicker downloads.

Skype for Asterisk released

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Digium last month released Skype for Asterisk (SfA).  What does this mean?  Well, it allows companies that use Asterisk to make calls to Skype users direct from their phone system, and also for Skype users to call companies directly from Skype as if they were making a normal Skype to Skype call.

This is great news and opens up lots of opportunities.  The SfA product is the only solution that integrates Asterisk directly with Skype with no external gateway hardware.  This is not a “proxy” solution and the call quality will be superior to anything else on the market.

Some of the features that are supported in this release are:

  • Make Skype-to-Skype calls.
  • Receive calls with online numbers (SkypeIn).
  • Make and receive multiple concurrent Skype calls from the same Skype account.
  • DTMF support for incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Read Skype profile fields from incoming calls.
  • Set and retrieve online status.
  • Set privacy settings.
  • Simultaneous access from both Asterisk and the Skype desktop client.
  • Trunk calls between Asterisk servers over Skype.
  • Support for G.711 and G.729 (included) codecs.
